Getting started
Get started: open Seatwise and check your site
Open Seatwise from Jira's settings and run the first check. There is nothing to set up and no API key to create. The check only reads.
- In Jira, open Settings, then Apps. Choose Seatwise in the left menu.
- The first time, Home shows “Check your site to see who costs a seat”. It lists what Seatwise looks at.
- Choose “Check my site”. Seatwise only reads. Nothing changes until you choose to remove someone.
- While it runs, Home shows how far it is, for example “Checking 120 of 612 people”. Keep Seatwise open until the check is done.
- When it finishes, Home answers in one sentence. For example: “31 people cost a Jira seat but haven't worked in Jira for 90+ days”.
- Choose “Review 31 people” to open the list. Choose “Renewal report” for a one-page summary.
- Four tiles follow: “Saved so far”, “New this month”, “Price step at renewal” and “Left, still own things”. Each tile links to its details.
- Below them are this month's checks: “Seats nobody uses”, “Leftovers from people who left” and “Groups to tidy”. Each row has a button that takes you there.
- Seatwise checks again in the background every day, and runs a full check once a month.
- To check now, choose the round arrow next to the “Checked today” time. Its name is “Check again”.
- If nobody opens Seatwise for 60 days, the daily checks pause. They start again when a Jira admin opens it.
What you should see
Home shows how many people cost a Jira seat without recent Jira work, the four tiles and this month's checks.
If something is not right
You see “Only Jira admins can use Seatwise. Ask a Jira admin to open it.” Seatwise opens only for Jira admins. Ask a Jira admin to open it, or to give you Jira admin rights.
Home says “The check didn't start.” or “The last check didn't finish.” Jira didn't answer in time. Nothing changed. Wait a minute, then choose “Check again”.
Home says “Your Seatwise licence is not active.” You can still look at everything. Removing seats, Undo, hand-over and saving changes stay off. A Jira admin can renew the license under Apps, then Manage apps.
